Best Shopify Checkout Upsell Apps in 2026: 10 picks compared

Compare the 10 best Shopify checkout upsell apps for 2026 by placement, Shopify Plus fit, pricing, and testing, from in-checkout offers to thank you pages

Grocery stores figured out checkout upsells decades ago.

Gum. Batteries. The chocolate treat you didn't plan on buying but absolutely earned that day (and everyday if I'm being honest).

Shopify brands get the same moment, with much better aim. The shopper has picked their products, typed in their address, and is one click from done. A relevant offer at that point feels helpful. And once they've paid, a one-click post-purchase offer can add to the order without asking for their card again.

The hard part is picking the app. Shopify rebuilt its checkout over the last few years, some placements only work on Shopify Plus, and pricing runs from flat monthly fees to a cut of every upsell you sell.

So we compared the 10 best Shopify checkout upsell apps on what matters once offers go live: where offers can appear, Shopify Plus requirements, personalization, testing, pricing, and how well each app fits Shopify's native checkout.

Quick disclosure: Rebuy Checkout Extensions and Rebuy Post-Purchase Offers (our Checkout & Post-Purchase package) compete with most of these apps. You'll find Rebuy at number one (shocking, we know). So read our list with that in mind. We've tried to give every app a fair shake, cons included. Ours too.

Prices and features come from each app's Shopify App Store listing or pricing page in October 2026. They change, so check before you install.

What is a checkout upsell?

A checkout upsell is an offer a shopper sees during or right after checkout. It might be a bigger size, an add-on, a subscription, or a product that pairs with what's already in the order. (Our upsell glossary entry has the longer definition.)

Three terms show up a lot:

  • Upsell: A more expensive version or a bigger quantity of what the shopper chose. The 12-pack instead of the six-pack.
  • Cross-sell: A related product, like a case for sunglasses or a frother for coffee. Our upsell and cross-sell guide covers both.
  • Downsell: A cheaper fallback after a shopper declines the first offer. Most post-purchase funnels use one.

You'll also see "order bump," which usually means a small, low-cost add-on (shipping protection, a sample, gift wrap) placed right next to the order summary.

The four places to upsell around Shopify checkout

"Checkout upsell" covers four different moments. Each one has its own rules, and Shopify sets most of them.

  1. The cart. Before checkout, on a cart page or in a slide-out cart drawer. Works on every Shopify plan. Our best Shopify cart apps roundup covers this spot in depth.
  2. In-checkout. Offers on the information, shipping, and payment steps. Shopify limits checkout UI extensions on these steps to stores on Shopify Plus, so every app on this list needs Plus for this placement.
  3. The post-purchase page. A page between payment and the thank you page. Shoppers accept with one click, and the item joins the order they just placed, no card details needed. It works on standard Shopify plans too, with some payment limits (more on those in the FAQs).
  4. The thank you and order status pages. According to Shopify's developer docs, extensions here work on every plan except Shopify Starter. The order is already final, so an accepted offer starts a new checkout. These pages can also earn you money from other brands' offers.

Why use a checkout upsell app?

  • Higher average order value without more traffic: You've already paid to get the shopper here. A good offer lifts average order value (AOV) from visitors you already have.
  • Peak buying intent: The shopper has decided to buy. A small, relevant add-on is an easy yes.
  • No risk to the first sale: Post-purchase offers appear after payment, so a "no thanks" can't cost you the original order.
  • More subscribers: Checkout and post-purchase are natural spots to offer subscribe and save.
  • Smarter inventory: Move excess stock or last-chance products with a targeted offer instead of a sitewide sale.
  • Revenue from the thank you page: Third-party offers can turn a page shoppers glance at into profit.

How to evaluate a Shopify checkout upsell app

Here are the nine criteria we used to rank these apps, and the ones we'd use to judge any checkout upsell app.

  • Placement coverage: Count the surfaces: cart, in-checkout, post-purchase, thank you, and order status. One app across all of them means one set of rules and one report.
  • Shopify Plus fit: Not on Plus? Check what you get without in-checkout offers. On Plus? Check that checkout upsells aren't locked behind the app's priciest plan.
  • Native checkout extensions: The app should build on Shopify's Checkout Extensibility (checkout UI extensions and post-purchase extensions), the only supported way to customize checkout now that checkout.liquid is retired.
  • Personalization depth: Rules are fine for five products. For 500, you want AI product recommendations based on what's in the order, purchase history, and customer segment.
  • Offer logic: Look for targeting by product, cart value, customer tags, and location, plus upsell and downsell paths for accepted and declined offers.
  • Testing and analytics: A/B testing, conversion rate, revenue per order, and attribution you can trust.
  • Subscriptions and discounts: Check support for your subscription app (Recharge, Skio, Stay.ai, and so on) and flexible discounts, like a percentage off or a fixed amount.
  • Pricing model: Flat, order-based, revenue-based, or view-based. Run the math at your BFCM volume, not your average month.
  • Checkout security: Checkout is where payment happens, so treat apps here with extra care. Our security checks are below.

How to test a checkout upsell app before you commit

  • Start on a development store. Most apps on this list are free on development stores, so you can build a real offer before you pay.
  • Run test checkouts with different payment methods. Try a credit card, Shop Pay, and a wallet like Apple Pay. Post-purchase offers skip some payment methods, so you'll want to see which shoppers get them.
  • Check the order behind the scenes. Accept an offer, then confirm the item, discount, and shipping show up correctly in your admin and your 3PL.
  • Stack your discounts. Apply a discount code, then accept an upsell. Make sure the math works the way you expect.
  • Check it on a phone. Plenty of your shoppers check out on mobile, so make sure offers fit a small screen without pushing the pay button out of view.
  • Compare the app's numbers to Shopify's. Upsell revenue in the app dashboard should line up with your Shopify reports.

Checkout security checks

Checkout is where card numbers get typed, so a few extra minutes here are worth it.

  • Favor native extensions. According to Shopify's developer docs, checkout UI extensions run in an isolated sandbox, without access to the checkout page's code or to sensitive payment information.
  • Be careful with custom code fields. App settings that let you paste custom JavaScript or HTML are handy, and they're also a place where bad code can hide. Use them only when you need them, and know who has access.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication. Require it for staff, collaborators, and every app account that can touch your store.
  • Test your checkout regularly. Open your store in a private window, add a product, and confirm you land on your real Shopify checkout. Do it after every app install or update, and once a month anyway.
  • Audit your apps. Remove apps and app embeds you no longer use. Fewer apps means fewer places for something to go wrong.

The 10 best Shopify checkout upsell apps, reviewed and ranked

1. Rebuy: Best for personalized offers from checkout to the order status page

Plenty of apps on this list reach more than one checkout moment. What sets Rebuy apart is that one AI and rules engine runs all of them, from the first checkout step to the order status page. It’s the same engine behind the Rebuy Smart Cart and merchandising widgets.

You get two main tools, plus a free bonus.

Rebuy Checkout Extensions add personalized upsell and cross-sell offers and content blocks inside Shopify checkout. Offers can trigger on customer behavior, product data, cart value, and more. Content blocks add testimonials and trust badges right where shoppers hesitate. It's all built on Shopify's native checkout extensions, which Shopify limits to Shopify Plus stores.

Rebuy Post-Purchase Offers show one-click offers between checkout and the thank you page, on Plus and standard plans. Shoppers add products without re-entering payment details. Build multi-step flows: if a shopper accepts, offer more. If they decline, show something different.

Rebuy Monetize is the bonus. It's free, it shows shoppers offers from big brands on your thank you and order status pages, and it pays you when shoppers click or convert.

Key features:

  • AI or rules-based targeting by segment, order value, items purchased, and purchase history
  • Up to 40 post-purchase flows at once, each with its own upsell and downsell logic
  • Up to three accepted post-purchase offers per checkout (Shopify's limit)
  • Thank you and order status page recommendations and content blocks, on Plus and standard plans
  • A/B testing with automatic winner selection
  • Percentage or fixed discounts with compare-at pricing, plus subscription offers with a first-order discount
  • Analytics for revenue per order, conversion rate, total sales, and visitors

Rebuy Checkout Extensions results:

  • WMP Eyewear runs last-minute checkout offers like mystery gifts and hard shell cases, which the brand compares to "picking up gum at the checkout line." Those offers drove 20% of its Rebuy-assisted revenue over 60 days.

Rebuy Post-Purchase Offers results:

  • MOSH saw its post-purchase offers convert at 13.6% (topping 16% at one point) and drive 23% of its Rebuy-assisted revenue over 90 days.
  • Momofuku's post-purchase offers convert at 16.25%.
  • Polyvinyl offers one surprise record from its 400+ release catalog at a steep discount after checkout. It gets a yes from 15% of the shoppers who see it.

Rebuy Monetize results:

  • Posh Peanut earned 39% more post-purchase ad revenue than it did with its previous platform.

Pricing: Checkout & Post-Purchase starts at $25/month for one package, priced by your monthly Shopify orders. Bundle packages to save 10% on two, 20% on three, or 30% on all four. Rebuy Monetize is free. Every package starts with a 14-day free trial and a money-back guarantee. See Rebuy pricing.

Pros:

  • Checkout, post-purchase, thank you, and order status offers in one place, with one set of rules
  • AI recommendations that update from real purchase behavior
  • A free way to earn from your thank you page

Cons:

  • Checkout Extensions need Shopify Plus (Shopify's rule, but a limit all the same)
  • Cart upsells live in a separate package, Cart & Merchandising
  • Forty flows is a lot of flows. Map them out before you build (future you will thank you)

2. Aftersell: Best for post-purchase funnels with heavy testing

Aftersell, now owned by Rokt, built its name on one-click post-purchase upsells. Its Smart Funnels test thousands of offer combinations (more than 6,000, by Aftersell's count), and targeting goes deep: product, cart value, tags, UTM, and more.

Key features:

  • One-click post-purchase upsells and downsells, plus thank you page offers
  • Multivariate testing with real-time analytics
  • Checkout upsells for Shopify Plus stores, included in the Post-Purchase plan
  • A separate Pre-Purchase plan for cart customization, rewards bars, free gifts, and product page upsells
  • Rokt Thanks, a free thank you page offer network

Pricing: Post-Purchase is $34.99/month for up to 200 monthly orders and scales with order volume to a cap of $999.99/month. Pre-Purchase starts at $59.99/month. Complete (both plans, plus a product recommendation engine) starts at $79.99/month for 500 orders. All three include a 30-day free trial. Rokt Thanks is free, and Aftersell says it pays $0.30 to $0.80 per order.

Pros: Deep post-purchase testing, checkout upsells for Plus without a pricier plan, and a free thank you page offer network.

Cons: Product recommendations need the Complete plan, and order-based pricing climbs with volume even when upsells don't.

3. Zipify OneClickUpsell: Best for pricing tied to upsell revenue

Zipify OneClickUpsell (OCU) charges by the upsell revenue it brings in, not by your order count. Small stores start low, and the bill grows only when upsells grow.

Key features:

  • One-click post-purchase upsells, in-cart upsells, and checkout upsells (Shopify Plus)
  • Dynamic AI Upsells that optimize themselves from store data
  • A/B testing and targeting by product, cart value, and customer tags
  • Thank you page offers through PostProfit
  • Cart drawer upsells, a free shipping bar, countdown timers, and subscription upgrades
  • Works with Klaviyo, Omnisend, Recharge, Skio, and Zipify Pages

Pricing: Free on development and partner stores. Starter is $9.95/month for up to $200 in monthly upsell revenue. Between $200 and $2,500, pricing starts at $25/month and steps up as revenue grows. Past $2,500, it starts at $149/month and caps at $999/month. Every plan includes a 30-day free trial.

Pros: Low entry price, no charge for order volume, and one-click funnels with cart and checkout coverage.

Cons: Your bill climbs as upsells succeed, and checkout upsells need Plus.

4. Upsell.com (formerly ReConvert): Best free plan for thank you page upsells

ReConvert rebranded as Upsell.com, but the app still goes by ReConvert in the Shopify App Store. It covers almost every surface on this list, and its drag-and-drop editor makes thank you page customization easy.

  • One-click post-purchase upsell funnels
  • AI recommendations, frequently bought together, bundles, quantity breaks, and free gifts

Pros: A real free plan, every feature on every plan, and wide surface coverage.

Cons: Pricing counts orders or upsell revenue, whichever is higher, and checkout upsells need Plus.

5. UpsellPlus: Best for checkout and in-store POS upsells

UpsellPlus is the rare upsell app that follows shoppers into your physical store. Alongside cart, checkout, and post-purchase offers, it adds one-tap upsells and automatic discounts in Shopify POS.

The Shopify Plus plan is $119/month for up to $2,000 in upsell revenue and adds checkout upsells and AI recommendations. Scale is $199/month for up to $5,000. Annual billing saves 15% to 20%.

Pros: POS coverage, broad subscription app support, and multivariate testing.

Cons: Revenue caps on every paid plan, and checkout upsells start on the $119 plan.

6. Wiz: Checkout Upsell: Best for full checkout customization on Shopify Plus

Wiz, from Skai Lama, is a checkout customization toolkit with upsells built in. Offers sit next to trust badges, banners, custom fields, gift messages, and shipping and payment rules.

  • Post-purchase funnels, plus thank you and order status page upsells
  • Checkout banners, trust badges, custom input fields, and a checkout discount list

Pros: Deep checkout customization, a plan for after-checkout offers on standard Shopify, and a done-for-you option.

Cons: No cart upsells and no free plan.

7. CartHook: Best pay-as-you-go pricing

CartHook lets you start with no monthly fee. You pay per order plus a small cut of upsells, then move to a flat plan once your volume makes it worth it.

Key features:

  • One-click post-purchase upsells, thank you page upsells, and checkout upsells (Shopify Plus, Growth plan and up)
  • Visual editor with offers of up to 12 products, plus videos, trust badges, and FAQs
  • Accept and decline funnels with A/B testing
  • Targeting by product, location, tag, customer type, and time since last order
  • Subscribe and save offers through Recharge or Seal

Pricing: Pay as you go is free to install, with 20 free orders a month, then $0.12 per order plus 1% of upsell revenue. Growth is $49/month with 1,000 orders included, then $0.14 per order, capped at $1,200. Scale is $149/month. Paid plans include a 14-day free trial and no revenue share.

Pros: No upfront cost, rich offer pages, and no revenue share on paid plans.

Cons: Per-order fees add up at volume, and there are no cart upsells.

8. Honeycomb Upsell & Cross Sell: Best for split testing upsell funnels

Honeycomb, from Conversion Bear, includes A/B split tests on every plan, including the free one. Funnels run on product pages, the cart, checkout, the post-purchase page, and the thank you page.

Key features:

  • Product page, cart, in-checkout (Shopify Plus), post-purchase, and thank you page funnels
  • One-click post-purchase upsells, with the option to merge orders
  • AI recommendation engine and an autopilot mode
  • BOGO, bulk discounts, free gifts, and discount stacking
  • Works with Recharge, Google Analytics, and Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and Snapchat pixels

Pricing: Free for 100 funnel views a month. Silver is $54.99/month for 2,000 views, Gold is $109.99/month for 5,000, and Platinum is $169.99/month for 10,000. Paid plans include a seven-day free trial.

Pros: Split testing everywhere, full funnel coverage, and order merging after checkout.

Cons: Pricing by funnel views means a traffic spike like BFCM can push you up a tier, and the in-checkout funnel needs Plus.

9. Candy Rack: Best for flat pricing with no upsell revenue cap

Candy Rack, from Digismoothie, places offers in eight spots, from the product page to post-purchase, and charges by order count with unlimited upsell revenue. It ships with its own cart drawer, too. Like every app here, its in-checkout placement depends on Shopify Plus.

  • Built-in cart drawer with a rewards bar
  • AI mode, where Candy Rack AI or Google Gemini picks the upsell
  • Volume bundles and quantity breaks
  • Warranty, shipping protection, gift wrap, and free gift offers
  • A/B testing through Intelligems

Pricing: Free for trial and development stores. Lite is $29.99/month (up to 50 orders), Starter is $39.99/month (51 to 200), and Growth is $59.99/month (201 to 500). Every paid plan includes unlimited upsell revenue, an eight-day free trial, and a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Pros: No revenue caps, a cart drawer included, and plenty of offer types.

Cons: Testing depends on a separate app (Intelligems), and the listed plans stop at 500 orders a month.

Cons: Fewer integrations than most apps here, and no thank you page upsells listed.

Which checkout upsell apps work without Shopify Plus?

All of them, for part of the journey. Shopify restricts in-checkout offers (the information, shipping, and payment steps) to Shopify Plus. The other surfaces are open to standard plans.

  • Without Shopify Plus: Use post-purchase offers, thank you page upsells, and order status page upsells, plus cart upsells before checkout. Every app on this list covers at least one of these.
  • With Shopify Plus: Add in-checkout offers and content blocks. All 10 apps here support them, but several save checkout upsells for a higher tier, so check which tier includes them.

Checkout Extensibility and the end of checkout.liquid

If you've been on Shopify a while, you remember editing checkout.liquid and pasting scripts into "additional scripts." That era is over.

  • checkout.liquid is no longer supported for the information, shipping, and payment steps.
  • For Shopify Plus stores, checkout.liquid, additional scripts, and script tags on the thank you and order status pages were sunset on August 28, 2025.
  • For other plans, script tags on those pages were sunset on August 26, 2026.

The replacement is Checkout Extensibility: checkout UI extensions, post-purchase extensions, Shopify Functions for discounts and rules, and web pixels for tracking. For upsell apps, that means offers built as native extensions. They load fast, Shopify keeps them away from payment details, and they're upgrade-safe when Shopify updates checkout.

If an app still asks you to paste code into your checkout in 2026, take that as a sign to keep shopping.

How checkout upsell apps charge: pricing models explained

  • Flat monthly fee: Same price every month, whatever you sell. Wiz and OrderBump work this way. Easy to budget.
  • Order-based: Price follows your monthly order count. Rebuy, Aftersell, and Candy Rack use order tiers. Your bill grows with your store, whatever your upsells earn.
  • Revenue-based: Price follows the upsell revenue the app drives. Zipify OCU and UpsellPlus use revenue tiers. Cheap to start, costlier as offers win.
  • Orders or revenue, whichever is higher: Upsell.com counts both and bills on the higher one.
  • View-based: Honeycomb prices by funnel views, so traffic spikes matter more than order count.
  • Pay as you go: CartHook's free-to-install plan charges per order and takes a share of upsell revenue.

Run each model against your biggest month. A plan that looks cheap in March can look very different the week of Black Friday.

What to offer: checkout upsell ideas that work

  • Complementary add-ons: The case for the sunglasses, the filter for the water bottle. Small, related, and easy to say yes to.
  • A second unit at a discount: Feals offers a second pack of its gummies at a discount after checkout, part of the changes that grew its post-purchase revenue per visitor 300% over six months.
  • Subscription offers: Offer subscribe and save on a consumable the shopper just bought. One Shopify rule to know: you can't add a subscription after checkout to an order that already has one.
  • Protection and warranties: Shipping protection, extended warranties, and gift wrap are classic order bumps.
  • Mystery offers: Curiosity sells. A discounted mystery item works well for brands with deep catalogs (see Polyvinyl above).
  • Free gift and free shipping thresholds: Show how close the shopper is to a free gift or free shipping, then suggest the product that gets them there.
  • Last-chance and excess inventory: Checkout is a good place to move limited runs and overstock without a sitewide sale.

Keep post-purchase offers priced well below the original order. A small, relevant add-on is an easier yes than a second full-price purchase.

How to measure checkout upsell performance

  • Take rate (offer conversion rate): The share of shoppers who accept an offer after seeing it. Across Rebuy case studies, post-purchase offer conversion rates run from about 3% to just over 16%.
  • Average order value: Compare AOV for orders with and without an accepted offer.
  • Revenue per order or revenue per visitor: More useful than take rate alone, because a 20% take rate on a $2 sticker can lose to a 5% take rate on a $40 refill.
  • Checkout conversion rate: For in-checkout offers, make sure the offer isn't slowing shoppers down or pushing them out of checkout.
  • Refunds and returns: An offer that's accepted and then refunded isn't a win. Watch refund rates on upsell items.

Test one variable at a time (product, discount, or copy), and give each test enough orders to call a winner.

Thank you page monetization: getting paid for other brands' offers

Not every thank you page offer has to be your own product. Monetization apps show shoppers offers from other brands after purchase and pay you when shoppers engage.

  • Rebuy Monetize: Free. It shows offers from big brands on your thank you and order status pages and pays you when shoppers click or convert. Rebuy merchants typically earn $20,000 to $35,000 or more in added profit for every 100,000 orders.
  • Rokt Thanks: Free, from Aftersell's parent company. Aftersell says it pays $0.30 to $0.80 per order.
  • Zipify PostProfit: Thank you page offers inside Zipify OCU.

Check category rules before you sign up. Some networks don't serve stores that sell alcohol, CBD, or adult products, and availability varies by country.

How to choose the right checkout upsell app for your store

The best checkout upsell app fits your Shopify plan, your order volume, and the moments you want to own. Start with your plan, then match the app to your stage of growth.

By Shopify plan

  • Standard Shopify plans: Focus on post-purchase and thank you page offers. Good fits include Rebuy Post-Purchase Offers, Upsell.com's free plan, CartHook's pay-as-you-go plan, Zipify OCU's Starter plan, and Wiz Essential.
  • Shopify Plus: Use the whole journey. Rebuy, Aftersell, and Wiz are strong picks for in-checkout offers next to post-purchase funnels.

By store size and budget

New stores: Start free or cheap, with one post-purchase offer on your bestseller. Upsell.com, CartHook, and Zipify OCU keep early costs low.

Growing brands: Add testing, downsells, and subscription offers. This is where pricing models start to matter, so compare order-based and revenue-based plans at next year's volume.

Shopify Plus and enterprise brands: Prioritize personalization across every surface, native checkout extensions, testing, and real support. Your checkout offers should connect to your cart and post-purchase flows instead of living in three separate apps.

Final checks before you install

Check three details: which plan includes checkout upsells, how the app handles your subscription app and discount codes, and whether it's built on Shopify's native checkout extensions.

FAQs about Shopify checkout upsell apps

What is the best checkout upsell app for Shopify?

It depends on your Shopify plan and where you want offers. Rebuy is best for personalized offers from checkout to the order status page, Aftersell for post-purchase funnels with heavy testing, Zipify OneClickUpsell for pricing tied to upsell revenue, Upsell.com for a free plan, and Wiz for full checkout customization on Shopify Plus.

Do you need Shopify Plus to upsell at checkout?

For offers inside checkout, yes. Shopify limits checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping, and payment steps to Shopify Plus stores. Post-purchase offers and thank you and order status page upsells work on standard plans. (Thank you and order status page extensions work on every plan except Shopify Starter.)

What's the difference between a checkout upsell and a post-purchase upsell?

A checkout upsell appears inside checkout, before the shopper pays, and needs Shopify Plus. A post-purchase upsell appears after payment, on a page before the thank you page. The shopper accepts with one click, and the item joins the same order.

What is a one-click upsell?

A one-click upsell is a post-purchase offer that adds a product to the order without re-entering payment details. It works when the shopper pays by credit card or Shop Pay. Shopify doesn't show post-purchase offers for wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, installment services like Klarna and Afterpay, PayPal's express checkout, gift cards, or orders in a currency other than the store's default.

Can you upsell on the Shopify thank you page?

Yes. Thank you and order status page extensions work on every Shopify plan except Starter. Because the order is already final, an accepted offer opens a new checkout. You can also earn money on that page by showing other brands' offers with a free app like Rebuy Monetize.

How much do Shopify checkout upsell apps cost?

Most paid plans start between $10 and $55 a month. In-checkout upsells for Shopify Plus often cost more, from $99 to $139 a month on Wiz, UpsellPlus, and OrderBump. Order-based and revenue-based plans climb as you grow, so check the cap.

Can you upsell at Shopify checkout without an app?

Not easily. Shopify's free Checkout Blocks app adds content blocks to the thank you and order status pages (and to checkout on Shopify Plus), but its App Store listing doesn't describe product upsell blocks. Shopify Plus stores can build a custom checkout UI extension, which takes developer time. For most brands, a checkout upsell app is the faster route.

Are checkout upsell apps safe to use?

They can be, with a little care. Choose apps built on Shopify's checkout UI extensions, which run in an isolated sandbox without access to payment details. Turn on two-factor authentication for every account, skip custom code you don't need, and run a test checkout in a private window after every app install or update.
